Luang Prabang Half Marathon Returns this October

United We Care. United We Protect. Join thousands of runners racing to fund Laos’ only free children’s hospital.

October is such a wonderful time to visit Luang Prabang. As the rainy season fades and the skies clear with a gentle tropical breeze, the UNESCO World Heritage town comes alive with some of the most magical cultural events, including the Festival of Lights. 

But this autumn, it is also the season when one of Laos’ most meaningful sporting charity events returns to the streets. 

On Saturday, 24 October, the annual Run for Children Luang Prabang Half Marathon returns. With race distances of 7km, 14km, and 21km, the event welcomes runners of all levels of experience. 

Now in its twelfth year, this much-loved event has grown into Luang Prabang’s flagship charity run, welcoming nearly 3,000 runners from Laos and around the world last year. 

If you are visiting Luang Prabang this October, joining the race is an exciting way to connect with the local community and support a critical healthcare lifeline that saves thousands of children’s lives. The atmosphere on the day is filled with energy and community spirit, with everyone knowing they are contributing to something of great purpose. 

Running for a Vital Cause

The marathon is entirely mission-driven, with every registration and donation going towards raising vital funds for Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC).

Located in Luang Prabang, LFHC is the country’s only 100% FREE pediatric hospital. Since opening in 2015, it has served hundreds of thousands of children. Last year alone, the hospital treated over 52,000 patients, providing high-quality medical care entirely free of charge. It is also recognized as one of the leading teaching hospitals in Laos, training local healthcare professionals to strengthen the country’s healthcare system

The Taleo, A Symbol of Protection 

This year’s theme is inspired by the Taleo, a traditional Lao symbol woven from bamboo. It is often placed at the entrance of homes, villages, rice fields, and sacred spaces to protect what is precious.

Just as the Taleo is used to protect homes and communities, this event unites people together to help protect children’s health, hope, and future.

This is the heart of this year’s message. Every runner, supporter, volunteer, and donor is part of that shared promise. Together, we help safeguard what matters: the children of Laos and the future they will help build.
